The City of Urbana has an excellent opportunity for a full-time, appointed Environmental Sustainability Manager. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): managing staff and activities in the following environmental programs to meet divisional goals: nuisance compliance, West Nile Virus/Encephalitis prevention, leaf collection, recycling, and landfill post closure care; overseeing climate action/sustainability plan development and implementation; acting as Co-director of the Champaign-Urbana Solid Waste Disposal System group; and providing knowledge and technical support to the Director of Public Works in planning and implementation of programs for the management of resources and wastes, and sustainability activities.

Minimum requirements include (but are not limited to): Knowledge and abilities typically acquired through a bachelor’s degree received from an accredited college or university with a major in urban planning, public administration, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related environmental and sustainability field, AND four years related work experience in private or public sector or comparable education/experience; knowledge of solid waste generation data, collection and material management options including recycling, composting and other techniques, and post closure landfill care operations; knowledge of environmental issues, greenhouse gas inventorying, energy consumption and efficiency techniques, natural resource management issues, public policy and sustainable development; and the ability to successfully use personal computers and Microsoft Office software, such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. The successful candidate must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class D Illinois driver's license within 30 days of hire.

The salary range for this position is $60,840.00 - $64,480.00 annually plus excellent benefits.
