Recycling Coordinator

(Full time/Temporary – 3 years)

The City of Champaign Public Works Department has an opportunity for a temporary full time Recycling Coordinator.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: planning, recommending, and implementing policies and activities for the City’s recycling programs; providing customer service and processing complaints; developing and administering contracts with recycling vendors; budget preparation and management; creating media announcements, flyers, or brochures; developing educational programs and activities to promote the City’s recycling programs; grant-sourcing and administration; supervising temporary employees and volunteers.

Requirements include two years of education at an accredited college or university, preferably in business, communications, public relations, environmental sciences, or a related field.  Additional education or a two or four-year degree is preferred.  Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license at time of hire. Must have excellent customer service skills in an office environment, excellent oral and written communication skills, thorough knowledge of standard computer programs, such as the Microsoft Office suite, knowledge of basic management principles, including budgeting, and the ability to train and supervise temporary and volunteer staff.  Knowledge of principles and practices involved in recycling and solid waste services, project management experience, and experience designing educational/promotional materials are all preferred, but not required, qualifications. 

The starting salary range is $43,297-$49,285, DOQ, with an excellent benefits package. This position is funded for three years. Applications must be submitted online no later than Tuesday, December 29, 2009.
